ATTICA TOWNSHIP

MINUTES OF THE

PLANNING COMMISSION

January 7th, 2010

 

            At a regular meeting of the Attica Township Planning Commission held on the 7th day of January, 2010 at the Attica Township Hall, 4350 Peppermill Road, Attica, MI  48412.

 

            The meeting was called to order by Chairman David Penzien at 6:00 p.m.  The following members were PRESENT:  Geraldean Berry, Bud Fackler, Kent Gierman, Nancy Szerlag, Phillip Madeline and David Penzien. ABSENT:  Robert Stockwell. ALSO PRESENT: Attorney Michael Gildner, Student member Daniel Gavette and the public per the attached sheet.

           

            Minutes of the November 5th, 2009 regular Planning Commission meeting minutes were reviewed and there being no corrections, additions or deletions:

 

            MOTION by Berry, seconded by Szerlag to approve the November 5th, 2009 regular Planning Commission minutes as presented.  A vote was taken.  Ayes:  All; Nays:  None.  Absent: One (Stockwell). MOTION CARRIED.

 

PUBLIC HEARING:  None.

 

OLD BUSINESS:           None.

 

NEW BUSINESS: 

 

1.          Tim Martin: New Life Christian Fellowship Church, Amend Site Plan to add ball field, pavilion and playground area.

 

             Pastor of New Life Christian Fellowship Church, Tim Martin, went over the amended site plan. Planning Commission Secretary Bud Fackler said that there were no problems with the amended site plan and Attorney Mike Gildner said that the planned additions to the site plan were harmonious with surrounding areas.

 

            Resident, Michelle Stowell, of 4339 Newark Road, voiced her opposition to the ball field, pavilion and playground and her concerns regarding added noise. There was discussion.

 

MOTION by Fackler seconded by Penzien to recommend approval of the amended site plan for New Life Christian Church to add a ball field, pavilion and playground area to the Attica Township Board.  A vote was taken.  Ayes:  All; Nays:  None. Absent: One (Stockwell).  MOTION CARRIED.    

 

2.         Park Manager Phil Madeline: tennis courts and benches.

 

            Park Manager Phil Madeline reported:

 

            a)         The park tennis courts are dangerous and he would like to dismantle them. The courts were built with a grant therefore Attorney Gildner will make sure dismantling them is allowed

 

            b)         A resident would like to donate a bench and a tree and he stated that there should be a policy regarding these donations.

 

            c)         New playground equipment is needed. There was discussion regarding possible ways to raise funds.

 

PUBLIC TIME:  None.

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND SECREARY REPORT:  

 

            Secretary Fackler reported:

 

            a)         The annual planning conference is going to be held on March 13th, 2010 and asked that Planning Commission members let him know as soon as possible if they will be able to attend.

 

            b)         Because of revenue loss due to tax loss and revenue sharing cuts and due to lack of building in the Township, the Planning Commission will now meet only four times per year, as required by law, unless an issue needs to be addressed before the next planned meeting.

 

ATTORNEY AND CONSULTANT REPORTS:  None

 

            There being no further business before the Attica Township Planning Commission, MOTION by Berry, seconded by Gierman to adjourn the meeting at 6:30 p.m.  A vote was taken.  Ayes:  All; Nays:  None. MOTION CARRIED.
